Military Science Books - I am dusting off an old man (but apparently a good man). Teaching at the Staff College here at the Australian War College I am always looking for interesting and new ways to contextualize and study Sun Tzu's greatness.
Visualization is an excellent tool for bridging the 'divide' between existing education and defense policy or practice. War is not just for the warrior or the soldier; War interests us all. I think finding engaging ways to teach Sun Tzu's thousands of years of martial arts is a win-win for everyone.

The future is uncertain and provides insight into the fundamentals of our service cultures. Commentaries written by the legendary Julius Caesar describe his campaigns in Gaul (ancient France). The sentences are translated from classical Latin, and since the original intent of the commentaries is a political position, it is difficult to read.
However, it is interesting to see how Caesar dealt with the complexity of the Gallic tribes, as well as his use of engineering techniques not often discussed in ancient warfare. If you're looking for something different to read, take the time to read this classic.

While theoretical reading is generally not stimulating or interesting, ATP 7-100.3 is written to be informative. The publication provides an excellent overview of the People's Liberation Army, including China's strategic and operational context, the PLA's organizational structure, and how the PLA likes to fight.
With conventional operations in Europe then geared to counteroffensive warfare, the U.S. The military must now be ready for close allies with superior strategic capabilities and weapons systems designed to keep ground forces at bay. I love this book because it challenges our preconceived notions about what leads to successful leverage with partners.
Carlin provides training, tools, consultants and more. Instead of focusing on its size, it argues that the nature of US involvement and the role of disaffected external actors are the primary determinants of its success or failure.
As land warfare becomes more complex due to the introduction of new technologies and domains that affect military operations, the nature of military leadership must adapt. Anthony King provides historical context and evidence from the tactical combat level to explain how Western military command has evolved over time to increase battlefield complexity.
This detailed work is a reminder that the military cannot only rely on new technologies and tactics, but must evolve its leadership approach to prepare for future wars. John Kegan is one of the leading figures in the study of military history.

Ronald Fogleman created the CSAF Professional Training Program to create a common reference among Air Force members—officers, enlisted men, and civilians—to help each of us become better, air and space power supporters.

This is another set of investigations into the ongoing war. It determines what the generals' objectives should be in the face of conflicting priorities. It is more personal than most of the books on this list because it tries to get into the psychology of the decision maker.
It provides an interesting look at one of the most important questions in the study of military science: How do leaders make the right decisions in complex, high-pressure situations? Read the article. The US Army Chief of Staff's Special Reading List is divided into three sections: Forces at War: Battles and Campaigns, Army Specialization and Strategy, and Strategic Environment.

His writings are the source of much modern and political thought. A more philosophical piece to not only discuss strategies and ideas, but inspire actions. This is a good follow-up to Sun Tzu, as the philosophical aspect is an important part of modern military science.
I recommend Nonstate Warfare, in which Biddle offers a new and compelling framework for understanding how nonmilitary actors wage war. Today, a growing number of militant organizations engage in traditional methods that are often considered the sole source of state power.
Conveying this dynamic and expansive view of modern warfare, Biddle expertly describes how combatants' internal politics influence their choice of military strategy. Here, Keegan tackles naval combat, which is a different animal. Keegan analyzes all the factors that changed the course of many naval battles, from technology to logistics.
